Mandate

The purpose of the establishment of the Department of Inland Revenue is to:

  1. Organise the government tax policy
  2. Broaden the Government’s tax revenue base,
  3. Collection of various tax revenue and no-tax revenue.

Further more, the following were assigned as the tasks of Department of Inland Revenue.

  1. Formulate the policies and implement them.
  2. Collect, administer and enforce various taxes and the fees levied under the legislation.
  3. Securing that every tax payer intended to pay tax is assessed in accordance with the regulations of the legislation and that taxes, fees and other payments are paid in the right amount in due time.
  4. Executing its duties and powers with respect for the taxpayers’ right;
  5. Enhancing compliance by informing the taxpayers of their obligations under the law and taking action to reduce taxpayer compliance cost.
  6. Developing efficient working methods to reduce the cost of administering the taxes and collection of revenue.
  7. Broaden the revenue base of the government.
