Organization
Inland Revenue was formed on 25 December 1996 under a Presidential Decree Act 1/68G (official) chapter 1 and 2. The purpose of forming this department is to centralize the receiving points of taxes and other receivable such as fines and relevant fees. This department is responsible for making policies and to maintain the records. It is a sub unit of Ministry of Finance and Treasury.
Department of Inland Revenue is divided into 4 sections:
Main duties of Admin Section is to receive all the incomings letters and registering those and giving to the relevant sections. In addition to this, dispatching letters, writing up of the daily minutes, answering telephone calls and assessing the stock and inventory. And also maintaining staff records with their annual leave, and managing human resource.
Budget Section mainly undertakes budget balance and preparing budget reports, refund, billing and making cheques, and maintaining petty cash. And also Preparation of staff salary sheet and other budgetary works.
Collection Section mainly undertakes the receiving activities of the payments receivable to the department directly and maintains the records of payments. Make arrangements to deposit money to the relevant bank accounts. The other important responsibility of the section is to maintain the stock of revenue stamps, carryout the sales or revenue stamps and all the required records.
Audit and Assessment Section is accountable to the routed payments which are collected by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) except that of Bank Profit Tax. The main undertaking of the section is to assess and audit the clients’ statements in various fee codes and maintaining the record of each client’s payments. Furthermore, the enforcement activities of these fees and taxes are also carried out by this section.
Taxpayer Services Section mainly manipulates the records of fees & taxes which pays to the Department of Inland Revenue, and maintain their details in our database. IT Section responsibility is to make all the sections available with the latest technologies in the world and make the computers update with them.
